He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Merle Sr. and Josephine Merle; his sons, Edward and Michael Merle III; and his brothers, Frank, Bob, Artie and Pete Merle.
He is survived by: his wife Julia Merle; his daughters, Luanne Merle of San Diego and Joanne Van Dien (Jim) of North Arlington; his grandchildren, Jessica Ann Van Dien, Richard Michael Van Dien and Julianne Lewis; his great grandchild Colin James Lewis; and his brothers, Joseph and Edward Merle.
