He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James W. Alexander and Hazel Smith Alexander; his wife Diane Elizabeth Jackson; his children, Melanie D. Loatman, James W. Alexander, III and David I. Alexander; his grandchildren, Ian, Jade, Miriah, Camryn, Xaver, Alexa and James IV; his great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Matt Jr., Dash and Avalee; and his great-aunt Bea Bell of California. He was also cherished by his cousins that love him dearly; four brothers-in-law and their spouses; four sisters-in-law and their spouses; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
