She was predeceased by: her parents, James Reid Sr. and Mary Broadnax Reid; her siblings, James, Jacob, John, Joseph, Jackie, Joel, Roger, Samuel, Hester, Lugenia and Francis; and her husband James T. Veney.
She is survived by: her daughter Linda Coverley; her grandchildren, Khamisha Coverley, Lynese Pegram and Cherese Jones; her great grandchildren, Mikaila Mills and Jalen Jones; and her grandchildren, Tracell Taylor and Jamil Pegram. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
In May 2023, Ruth was honored by The Newark-Scott Cultural Center and Civic Foundation, Inc. for her years of service at the historic Scott mansion.
