He was predeceased by: his parents, Katherine Bates (Search) and Daniel Bates; his siblings, Betty, Margaret, John, Rita, Charles, Patty and Raymond; and his son-in-law Jimmy LaBell.

He is survived by: his wife Jean; his children, Angela Goldberg (Roland), Pamela LaBell, Shawn Bates (Dana), Donald Martin and Calvin Wayne Trimble; his grandchildren, Lynsie, Jimmy, Kristi, Andrew, Dominic, Danny, Isabella, Haden, Dawn, Jacob, Joanna, Joy and Sarah; and his siblings, Daniel Jr., Jane, William, Eileen, Joan, Muriel and Gerald.
