It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Edward Meteyer of Mullica Hill, New Jersey, born in Rochester, New York, who passed away on June 24, 2024, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas O. Meteyer and Joyce T. Meteyer. He is survived by: his wife Susan E Smith of Mullica Hill; his siblings, Michael (Kate Byrnes) of San Rafael, CA, Mary Jo (Jeff Baker) of Rochester and Richard of Geneva, NY; his siblings-in-law, Cynthia VandeGrift (Mark) and Michael Smith (Janet); and his nieces and nephews, Lauren Eckert, Emma Meteyer, Elizabeth Meteyer, Daniel Meteyer, Matthew Meteyer and John Meteyer. He is also survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles.
After spending six months learning Portuguese on a National Science Foundation grant at Northwestern University, he spent two years in Brazil setting up a graduate chemistry program and teaching chemistry in Portuguese at the University of São Paulo.
