He was predeceased by: his sons, Samuel H. Jones III and Donald Gallagher; and his siblings, Sidney and Susan. He is survived by: his wife Jean Jones; his children, Sharon Heston (Jeffery), Sandra Gubbine (Sam), Traci Jones, Donna Gharavinia (Iraj), Douglas Gallagher (Mary Jo) and Darin Gallagher (Doreen); his sister Sylvia Mitchell; and his daughters-in-law, Miriam Jones and Joan Gallagher. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family has asked that donations be made in Sam's memory to the Salem Community College Foundation, 460 Hollywood Avenue, Carneys Point, NJ 08069.
