She was predeceased by: her parents, John Phelan and Mary Phelan; her former husband William J. Simonson; and her spouse Thomas M. Root. She is survived by: her daughters, Marian Walrath (Paul) of Penn Yan, NY and Theresa Kowal (Stan) of Silver Spring, MD; her stepson Thomas R. Root (Barbara) of Plainfield, NJ.; her grandchildren, Jessica Duke, Matthew Walrath, Lily Kowal and Meghan Root; and her great grandchild Charles 'Kai Duke.
The family requests that people make donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of sending flowers.
