He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Carlson and Freda "Custis" Carlson. He is survived by: his sons, David Carlson and Adam Carlson; his significant other Mary Devine; his sister Susan Lapp (Alan); and his stepdaughter Karli Taylor.

In lieu of flowers or donations, Phil performed many acts of random kindness.
