He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin F. Smith Jr. and Anne Smith; and his sister Christine DeSanto. He is survived by: his wife Desiree Smith; his daughter Victoria Brinkley (Christie Brinkley); his grandchildren, Allison Brinkley and William Brinkley; his mother-in-law Kathleen Schanck; his sister-in-law Robin Schanck; and his sister Barbara Lynn Jensen. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
