He is survived by: his wife Mary Bates; his children, Percy Bates IV (Stella), Kristine Cook, Michelle Bates, Michael Bates Jr., Tanya Bates, Rick Bates and Amanda Bates-Perez (Orlando); and his siblings, Harry Bates, Ruth McCracken, Buddy Bates, Johnny Bates, Ginny Gandy, Billy Cushner, Catherine Gandy, Edith Dilks, Michael Bates Sr. and Evelyn Fullerton. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren.
