He was predeceased by: his parents, Spencer Hughes and Marie Hughes; his wife Lynn Hughes (Herbert); and his siblings, Spencer Hughes Jr. (late Diane) and Dee Hughes of Newport Beach, CA.

He is survived by: his daughters, Colleen Welling (John) of Tabernacle, Carol Minder (Kevin) of Medford and Jennifer Wagner (Jeff) of Medford; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Erin, Robert, Jack, Stephen, David and Nicholas; and his sister-in-law Carol Tartis (late John).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carey's memory to Knights of Columbus Council 6520, 40 Jackson Road, Medford NJ 08055.
