He was predeceased by: his spouse Carmen Robles; and his parents, Justa Francisco and Juan Francisco. He is survived by: his children, Dyanne Ilaria (Rocco Ilaria), Aida L. Peralta and Hiram R. Robles; and his grandchildren, Joseph H. Ilaria, Simone Rios, Michael and Stephan Robles.
He went into remission after his first bout with cancer and became a case study during the pandemic when he received a stem cell transplant at the age of 82 to treat a second, different cancer.
