He was predeceased by: his parents, Carlo Pietro Gentile and Angela Antonia Chiovitti; his sister Gina Gentile Ammirata; his siblings-in-law, Anthony Ammirata, Victoria Gentile and Joanne Gentile; and his niece Shannon Gentile.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Connolly; his brothers, Salvatore, Frank and Anthony Gentile (Diana); and his cousins, Elio Gentile and Carlo Gentile.
He was named as one of the Star Ledger Newspaper's top ten wrestlers of each decade, namely the 1950's. In addition, he was inducted into the New Jersey Coaches Association, Region V Hall of fame for outstanding achievement, leadership and contributions to New Jersey Scholastic Wrestling.
