He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn "Cay" Messenger; and his sister Barbara Smith. He is survived by: his children, Kim Scangarella (Jay), Kate Liggett (Brad), Steven Messenger (Michelle Caputo) and Kerri Brennan (Steve); his grandchildren, Ken Bopf (Grace), Mike Scangarella (Brie), L. B. Liggett (Lindsey), Nicholas Liggett (Annie), Justin Liggett, Brittany Etchyson, Davis Messenger, Shane Brennan and Courtney Brennan; and his great grandchildren, Oona, Dahlia Bopf and Sofie Etchyson.
