She was predeceased by: her parents, Amos Jenkins and Marie Jones Jenkins; and her sister Janet Marie James. She is survived by: her children, Steven B. May, Curtis A. May and Cynthia A. Barnes; her husband Payton May; her children-in-law, Kayren Alaris and Darryl Barnes; her grandchildren, Mariah Diaz (Cruz Diaz), Payton May and Paxton May; her great grandchild Vivianne Lane Diaz; and her siblings-in-law, Hazel May, Bessy Howell, Violet Wheeler and Ulysses James. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

As a recipient of a kidney donation, she wanted to give back by making sure others knew the importance of donating organs to help save lives.
