He was predeceased by: his son David Thorne Jr.; and his father Floyd Austin Thorne. He is survived by: his wife Mary P. Hegarty; his children, Breanna Hegarty-Thorne, Melissa Thorne-Simpson and Daniel Thorne; his mother Jessie Farr; and his siblings, Kenny Thorne, Judy Thorne and Linda Thorne-Collura. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
