He is survived by: his spouse Pilar; his children, Angelica Hempel, John R. Hempel, Jr., Sandra R. Klusewicz and James Hempel; his grandchildren, Maci, Olivia, Gianna, Lori, Kennedy, Summer, Callie of Paige, RJ, Victoria, Viviana and Janelle; and his daughter Angie.
