He is survived by: his children, James Hemphill of Carlstadt, George Hemphill of Carlstadt, Dorothea Maxwell of Morristown, Joan Marie Hemphill of Montclair and Mary Anne Wright (Scott) of Great Falls, VA; and his sister Martha Ann Heaton of Keyport. He is also survived by grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
