He was predeceased by: his parents, Dora Rettberg and Alfred Rettberg; his brothers, William Rettberg and Alred Rettberg; his son Karl H. Rettberg Junior; and his grandchildren, Jason Clark and Gage Wells.

He is survived by: his wife Noreen Rettberg; his children, Dorothy Rettberg, Mary Christiano (Danny), Deborah Lopez (Alvin), Jude Rettberg, Kimberly Murray (Andrew), Eric Rettberg (Grace) and Tamatha Rettberg (Antar Taleb); his daughter-in-law Tabatha Rettberg; his sister Elfieda Heidenfelder; his mother-in-law Arlene Rogers; and his grandchildren, Ashley Rettberg, Andrew Murray, Terence Murrary, Samantha Murray, Danielle Murrary, Autym Rettberg, Willow Rettberg, Amanda Christiano, Dominic Christiano, Anthony Rettberg, Sara Maloney, Megan Rettberg, Tiffany Wells and Tabatha Rettberg. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
