Merkel Jr. of Keansburg, New Jersey, born in Red Bank, New Jersey, who passed away on February 23, 2024, at the age of 60, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, James Sr. Merkel and Barbara Merkel; and his stepmother Grace Merkel. He is survived by: his wife Beth Merkel; his siblings, Terry Blake of Middletown, Sue Calmon (George) of Union Beach, Kelly Merkel (JD Shannon) of Brick and Karen Kirkpatrick (Trevor) of Brick; his nieces and nephews, Janelle, Ryan, Casey, Brandon, Dylan, Kendra and Patrick; his friend Michael Donaldson (Patricia); and his pets, Shamus and Lady.
His contributions to the New Jersey Fireman's Relief Association as a life member, his role as Department Chairman of the Keansburg Fire Department Commissioners, and his lifetime membership in the Bayshore Active Chief's Association highlighted his unwavering dedication.
