He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Sr. Birney and Florence Birney (Carole); his daughter Eileen Jane McGovern; and his brother Jerome Birney. He is survived by: his wife Mary E. Birney (O'Gorman); his sons, Francis Michael Birney (Vivian) of Kensington and Kevin Patrick Birney (Mary) of Magnolia; his son-in-law Sean McGovern of Toms River; his grandchildren, Patrick Joseph Birney (Megan), Ryan F. Birney (Renee), Caitlin E. Cagwin (Evan), Michael J. Birney, Fiona McGovern, Niamh McGovern and Aileen McGovern; his great grandchildren, Lily Birney, Henry Birney, Mila Birney and Kellan Birney; and his sister Marguerite Jones of Huntington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family.
