He was predeceased by: his wife Gladys Puanani Schumacher Carter; his parents, Herbert Wesley and Opal Lee Carter (Beckelheimer); and his siblings, Herbert "Boy" Carter, Jr., Robert Roy "Doodle" Carter, Jack Don Carter, Larry Jean Carter, Benny Ray Carter, John Elmer Carter, David Michael "Day" Carter and Betty Goode.
He is survived by: his daughters, Leilani Nipper (Nick) and Ilona Brown; his friend Carlos Fuentes; his grandson Matthew Toler (Sabrina); his siblings, Jerl Dean Carter, Buster Carter, Mary Ann Maynard and Rose McMillion; his close friend Carlos Manning; and his pet Roscoe. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, dear friends.
