He was predeceased by: his wife Maureen R. Burns; and his siblings, John Burns, Thomas Burns, Michael Burns, Ellen Szczepanski, Jean Schmitt and Kathleen Burns.

He is survived by: his children, Martin J. Burns (Leah) and Julia Mortimore (Leonard); his stepchildren, Michele Scott (Shawn) and Vince Antico; and his grandchildren, Martin James, William Joseph, Sebastian, Sophia, Emily, Shane and Kaylee. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
