He was predeceased by: his parents, Ciro and Rose (DiMizio); his wife Gerlinde Zechmeister; and his siblings, Ciro, Peter, Mary, Theresa and Helen.

He is survived by: his daughters, Arlene Fitzgerald (John) of Gladstone, NJ and Andrea Muscio-Palazzo (Mark) of Greenwich, CT; and his grandsons, John Jr. and Michael Fitzgerald. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
