He was predeceased by: his parents, John "Jack" Dempsey and Doris J. Nichols, Sr.; and his brother John D. Nichols, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Karen Lynn Nichols; his stepchildren, Andrea N. Straub, Brian R. Straub and Jessica S. Brown; his grandsons, Brayden and Gabriel Wentz; his siblings, Thomas Nichols of Franklinville, Joan Nichols of Millville, Donald Nichols (Linda) of Harleysville, PA, Kenneth Nichols (Elisa) of Vineland, Nancy Nichols, Linda Arnold (Tony) of Clayton and Patrick Nichols (Lisa) of New Florence, PA; and his grandson Kevin.
