He was predeceased by: his sister Anita McMillan; and his father Phil Pepperman. He is survived by: his wife Rita; his children, Michael (Stacey Pepperman), Jessica Pepperman (Kevin Anderson), David (Lyndsey Pepperman) and Alexander; his grandchildren, Whitney, Megan, Callie, Tessa and Samantha; his mother Elaine; and also, Ken and Amy.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to: The University of Pennsylvania Abramson Cancer Center.

“Rita, I am sorry for your loss. I'm not sure you'd remember me, but I worked in Lew's dept for about 10 years---MANY years ago. Lew was always a stand-up guy, I always respected him and liked him. When I left, he was very encouraging to follow my dreams and education (25 yrs later, I have never been happier, as an oncology nurse). I never looked back with regret, but always with a tinged of nostalgia for the good people and times we had as a department. My condolences. Tina Bergner”
