He was predeceased by: his wife Ellen Smith; and his brother Richard H. Smith. He is survived by: his children, Susan Moore (Steven), Sally DiGia (Anthony) and David (Oni); his grandchildren, Kristin Mederos (James), Jeremy Moore (Laura), Gregory Mower (Danielle), Holly Moore, Jorja Smith and Wyatt Smith; and his great grandchildren, Cole Mederos, Jace Mederos, Trey Mederos (Kristin), Josephine Moore (Jeremy) and Rowan Moore (Holly).
