He was predeceased by: his parents, Sydney Richardson and Ida Richardson; his wife Mildred C. Richardson; and his son Samuel B. Johnston. He is survived by: his grandchildren, Stacey Lynn Allen (Jeff) and Amy Brett Holvesk (John); his great grandchildren, Gregory, Jessica, Sarah Allen, Kaitlyn, Kelsey and Brayden Holveck; his daughter-in-law Susan W. Johnston; his nephew Jeffrey King; and his niece Susan King.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Peter's Episcopal Church and/or Rotary club of Lake Hopatcong.
