He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Otto and Hildegard Grockenberger; and his siblings, Walter Grockenberger, Esther Cliborne and Bettylou Slater.

He is survived by: his wife Carol; his children, Richard G. Grockenberger, Jr. (Shelly) and Renee James; his grandchildren, Michael, Mercedes, Danielle, Brandon and Angelina; and his sister Jean Hess. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
