He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his daughters, Cindy Schafer (Bob), Penny Greve, Linda McKenna (David) and Katie Shellhammer (Scott); his grandchildren, Jessica Kaiser (Dominic), Kerri Connell, John, Steven, Luke, Emily McKenna, Ed (Bo), Holly and Caitlin Zarzecki; his great grandchildren, Jackson, Bella Kaiser, Avreigh Zarzecki and Casey McKenna; and his siblings, Charles, William and Dorothy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A mass will be held following Covid-19 guidelines, Monday, April 5, 2021, 10:00 AM St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, 325 Second Ave., Garwood (where he was baptized).

In lieu of flowers, it was John's wish for donations to be made to The Light of Day Foundations important work for Parkinson's Disease, at https://www.lightofday.org or for The Center For Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, at https://www.cfhh.org.

“Cindy, Penny, Katie and Linda, I will always remember both of your loving parents. Growing up on Hillcrest Ave. your home was always a warm and inviting place for the neighborhood. Your father was always building something and was so nice to all us neighborhood children. I often think back to all the fun times we all had growing up on Hillcrest Ave. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Barbara Engel Douglas”
