He was predeceased by: his parents, Sarah Smyth and Thomas Smyth; and his siblings, Mary Kearney, Vera D'Amato and Thomas Smyth.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine Hopkins Smyth; his son Bryan Thomas Smyth of Frostburg, MD; and his siblings, Rosaleen Caughey, John, Kevin and Patrick Smyth. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
