He was predeceased by: his spouse Mina Deane Stout (Bieler); his child Leslie J. Masessa; and his sibling Hurley. He is survived by: his son Richard D. Stout (Jeanne) of Toms River; his grandchildren, Laura Stout Gartner, Jessica Stout Pugliese, David, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Daniel and Emily Masessa; his great grandchildren, Kayden J. Stout, Kennedy G. Gartner, Kameron A. Pugliese and Richard Ardal Masessa; his siblings, Carolyn Sivilich, J. Ronald Stout, Nancy Theillon and Patrician Lynn; and his close friend Donald Silverstein.

“Dick and I were long time friends. As Business teachers, we were involved in the New Jersey Business Educators Association. Dick was my Vice President and I was his Past President. We had great times in Atlantic City and North Jersey where the State conventions were held. As years passed, we corresponded and finally met again in Red Bank with Don. A gentle man, an interesting writer, a true friend, a traveler, and aware of today's issues Dick will be missed. My sympathy to his family.”
