He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Sobin and Maryann Sobin; and his wife Catherine E. Houlihan-Sobin. He is survived by: his sons, Dennis of Cliffwood Beach, Derek (Kelsey Olsen) of Cliffwood Beach, Daniel of Cliffwood Beach and Dylan (Brianna Burlew) of Cliffwood Beach; his grandchildren, Nicholas Olsen, Derek Sobin Jr. and Parker Sobin; and his brother Frank Sobin of Union Beach.
