Maria DeMarco Obituary
Maria (Caruso) DeMarco, 72, of Clark passed away at home on August 6, 2020. She was surrounded by her husband, two sons, sister, and aunt. Maria was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Emma Caruso; sister Roberta (Caruso) Blaszczyk, and nephew Christopher Cavallo. She is survived by her husband Nicholas of 52 years; son Nicholas and his wife Diane and their daughter Mia; son Donato and his wife Melina and their children Gianna, Ava, and Nicholas; Roberta’s daughter Alexandra; sister Donna and her husband Frank Cavallo and their daughter Caryn.
Maria grew up in Cliffside Park. Upon graduating Cliffside Park High School in 1965, she attended beautician school. After marrying Nick, they opened a beauty salon in Cliffside. When they moved to Elizabeth and became parents, Maria became a dedicated stay-home mom, cub scout den leader, socks sorter, master meatball maker, quicker-picker-upper, party planner, self-proclaimed nurse, taxi driver, homework helper, cheerleader, arts & craft expert, costume maker, mind reader, Mrs. Fix It, book keeper, travel agent, pet groomer, beach day organizer, short order cook, awesome Jell-O maker, living room referee, and adoring wife.
When Maria returned to the working world in the 80s, she became the day manager of Dr. Jekyll’s Pub in Elizabeth. By the late 80s through 2005, Maria was employed with Elizabeth Public Schools as an office worker and librarian assistant.
Maria is best known for enjoying time with family and friends. She comes from a huge family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Maria loved hosting family and friends at her beach house for the last 42 years. In recent years, she has especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and supporting all their extra-curricular activities.
Maria was a parishioner of Saint Genevieve’s Church in Elizabeth for 20 years. Most recently, she leaned on her faith and found solace in Christ’s promise of salvation. The family thanks all of you for your thoughts and prayers during Maria’s last few months.
Arrangements are by Higgins & Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave. Westfield, NJ 07090. Visitation is on August 11, 4-7. Funeral Mass will be August 12 at 11am at St. Agnes Church, 332 Madison Hill Rd, Clark. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. Repast will follow at The Gran Centurion, 440 Madison Hill Rd, Clark, NJ (Please note: The repast will be partly outdoors under a tent and indoors).
