She was predeceased by: her parents, Fletcher Jernigan and Bettie Jernigan; and her siblings, Linwood Jernigan, Betty Lou Maxwell and Brenda Jernigan.
She is survived by: her husband Alfred Warren Matthews; her children, Christopher Matthews (Nancy) and Julia Matthews; her grandchildren, Alyson and John Matthews; and her siblings, Elizabeth Register, Wallace Jernigan, James Jernigan and Sherrill Jernigan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
