He was predeceased by: his parents, Julian L. Armstrong and Preble F. Armstrong; and his siblings, Lloyd, William, Robert, Harold Armstrong and Preble Kaufman.
He is survived by: his wife Fran Armstrong (Cannon); his children, Karen M. A. Newman (James W. Newman, Jr), Edward M. Armstrong (Rebecca) and Elizabeth K. Armstong; his grandchildren, Rachel Newman, Edward Armstrong, Julian Armstrong, William Armstrong, Samuel Armstrong, Elijah Armstrong, Cora Armstrong and Lowell Armstrong; his sister Zonie M. Quinn; and his nephew J. E. Motts. He is also survived by extended family: sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
