He was predeceased by: his wife Gail (Dobler). He is survived by: his children, John and Debbie Tole; his siblings, Robert (Anne Marie) and Carol Fox (Edward); his children-in-law, Robert and Shannon; and his grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Robert, Alexander, Gavin and Morgan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Virginia Tech Center for Autism Research.
