He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Thomas McAteer, I and Rose Josephine Jarvis; and his siblings, Donna McMinn, Robin Joseph and Kim McAteer.

He is survived by: his wife Jennifer McAteer; his children, Megan Ann Davis (Michael Logan) of Conyers, GA, Courtney Jill Gangi of Flora, IL, Adam Thomas McAteer (Stephanie) of Eischberg, Germany and Edward Thomas McAteer, III (Gabrielle) of Browns Mills, NJ.; his grandchildren, Jillian Elizabeth, Gabriel Joseph, Gianna Isabella and Jaxson Thomas; and his sister Sallie McAteer of Bradenton, FL..
