He is survived by: his wife Linda Marshall Johnston; his children, Matthew (Sara) of West Caldwell, NJ and Mary (Collin Crookenden) of Arlington, VA; his brother Russell Johnston of Victoria, Canada; and his niece Danielle Cheung of Cananda.
