He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick George Backhus, Sr. and Veronica Backhus; his stepsister Barbara; and his brother Richard. He is survived by: his aunt Kay; his uncle Ed Sanderson; his stepmother Helen Backhus; his children, Frederick George Backhus III (Debbie), Kristy Ryan (Mike) and Susan Simpfenderfer (Carl); his grandchildren, Frederick George Backhus IV (Brittany), Dana Apostol (Brian), Michael Ryan (Rebecca), Tiffany Larson (Erik), Keri Murano (Frank), Stephanie Minervini (Antonio), Samantha Clark (Matthew) and Susannah Simpfenderfer-Payne (Rondell); and his cousin Janet Lesniak (Leonard). He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial contributions be made in his honor to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Brick, NJ, to St. Jude Children's Hospital (http://www.stjude.org), or to the charity of your choice.
