He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Whelan and Edna Whelan; his daughter Patty Whelan; his brother Arthur G. Whelan of Bloomfield; and his grandson Benji Cofone.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia M. Whelan; his children, Barbara Kaplan, Leighann Redling, Henry Whelan and Sean Whelan; his brothers, Henry E. Whelan of Plainfield and George L. Whelan of Marshall, Michigan; his grandchildren, Nancy Cofone, Jessica Cofone Khouzam, Joseph Romano, Kristen, Brian Schreckstein, Casey, Henry, Gavin Whelan, Joey, Jaylyn, Julia Whelan and Evan Kaplan; and his great grandchildren, Ian Shields, Alexandra and Zackary Khouzam.
