Richard W. Harmer Obituary

Richard W. Harmer entered into eternal rest on May 13, 2022, with his loving family by his side. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Bayonne for many years before moving to Howell, NJ 4 months ago.

Richie met and married his true love Kathleen, with whom he shared a 53-year marriage before her passing in 2015. With family as his greatest priority and focus, Richie worked hard to provide a good life for his wife and children. His natural ability in the automotive field motivated him to pursue his dream of opening his own business in Bayonne beginning with Richie's Auto Repair and Gas Station on 10th St. and Ave. E. and later Richie's Auto Repair Service on 50th St. and Ave. B. He passed his set of skills onto his son Richie Jr. who continues to honor the legacy and outstanding reputation his father established towards his customers over the years.

Although a hard worker and regimented in his daily life, Richie did find time for leisure activities and hobbies such as bowling and trips to Wind Creek Casino in Pennsylvania as well as taking adventurous rides on his motorcycle with his wife Kathleen. He treasured holiday celebrations and birthdays with his loved ones where many annual traditions grew over the years.

Above all else, he was a loving and supportive father who rooted for each of his children to succeed in life. He took immense pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to enjoy playtime with them. Richie's family looked up to him as a man they most admired and more importantly they were all truly blessed by his wisdom and strong work ethic that carried them through in their own lives. He will be greatly missed for his humble spirit and will remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Richie is now reunited with his dearly beloved wife, Kathleen, son Daniel, his precious great-granddaughter, Madelyn Grace Schuler, his loving parents, Raymond and Emma Harmer, his brother, Raymond Harmer, and his son-in-law, Michael Kevin McCoy. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted children, Richard Harmer, Lori Pacyna (Mike), David Harmer, Kathleen Cohen (Mark), Michelle McCoy, Stacey Hoffman, Jamie Harmer, Allyson Harmer, and Nicole Harmer; his adored grandchildren, Michael, Zachary, Justin, Braden, Sophie, Evan, Olivia, Joseph, Jordan, Jacob, Alex, Brennen, Madison, Shannon, Kellen, Jayne, Dean, Zoe, Zavia, Skylar, and Robert David Burke III, and great-grandchildren, Rowen, and Mason.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Sunday, May 22, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Everyone is asked to assemble by 11:45 a.m. at St. John Paul II Parish on Monday, May 23, for a 12:00 pm funeral mass in Richie's honor officiated by Fr. Lukasz Kleczka. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.

Your gentle face and patient smile, with sadness we recall, You had a kindly word for each, And died beloved by all.

The voice is mute and stilled the heart, That loved us well and true, Ah, bitter was the trial to part, From one so good as you.

You are not forgotten loved one, Nor will you ever be, As long as life and memory last, We will remember thee.

We miss you now, our hearts are sore, As time goes by, we miss you more, Your loving smile, your gentle face, No one can take your vacant place.
