He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald W. Gates and Margit Gates. He is survived by: his wife Nancy (NJ); his sister Joanne Kristine Bruno; his brother-in-law Thomas F. Bruno; his stepdaughter Michelle Smith (Ed Smith); his grandchildren, Christian Smith, Gwyneth and Sasha Smith; his nieces and nephews, Thomas F. Bruno (Inez), Peter Bruno (Melody Vargas), Matthew Simmons, Alex Simmons and Sarah Schaefer; his sisters-in-law, Cynthia Schaeffer (Ernest) and Leah Simmons; his cousin Eileen Lea (Neil); and also Scotland.
