He was predeceased by: his father Henry James Sr.; his son Ralph E. Jr.; his mother Winifred "Winnie" Behre (Rider); and his siblings, Henry J. Jr., Dana S. Behre and Ferber (A. H. "Bud" Ferber, Jr.).

He is survived by: his wife Cornelia; his daughters, Linda (Don) and Laurie; his grandchildren, Andrew and Annie; his son Steven (Lisa); and his granddaughter Melissa (Connie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
