Benedict Semmes Obituary
We are sad to announce that on June 18, 2020, at the age of 70, Benedict Semmes of Wonalancet, New Hampshire passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Vice Admiral B. J. Semmes and Kit Ainsworth Semmes; and his sister Raphaelle. He is survived by: his grandson Van; his wife Elonide Caldwell Semmes; his children, Benedict Joseph Semmes of Austin, Eleanor Caldwell Semmes of Durham and Faith Cole Hall (Travis); his grandchildren, Eugene, Kimmie of Washington, DC, Raphael Taylor (Jamie) of New York, NY, Shelby Leigh Semmes of Warren and Sylvan "Van" Semmes O'Shaughnessy; his sisters, Walden Semmes Morton (David) of Cape Elizabeth, ME and Amy Gardner Semmes (John Waite) of Cambridge, MA; and his pet Chewbacca. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Due to COVID-19, the family held a private burial service and will delay a celebration of life to a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to one of Joe's three favorite charities – the New Orleans food bank, the club that maintains our hiking trail system started by his ancestors here in Wonalancet and finally for his love of books, our local library.
