He is survived by: his parents, Albert J. Schmidt and Gwendolyn G. Schmidt (Fisher); his children, Hilliary Schmidt of Lancaster, Nicole Stewart (Zachary) of Buxton and Thomas Schmidt of Whitefield; his granddaughter Natalia Schmidt; and his siblings, Alan L. Schmidt (Irene) of Lancaster, Linda D. Gauvin of East Burke and Tracy S. Schmidt (Teri) of Fairborn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, P.O. Drawer 498, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
