He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold D. Hurd and Madeline Hurd (Brooks); his wife Nancy (Allen); and his siblings, Donald Hurd, Charles Hurd and Patricia Craig.
He is survived by: his children, Tamara Saxby of Laconia, NH, Tracy Hurd of Webster, NH and Richard D. Hurd Jr. of Webster, NH; his grandchildren, Tara Avery of Boscawen, NH, Matthew Saxby of Cedar Hill and Mya Penrice of Webster, NH.; his brother Howard Hurd; his stepsisters, Sara Harkins and Mary-Anne Edwards; and his pet Abby. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
