You will be greatly... " - Brenda Becker View Sign ELIOT, Maine - Elisabeth "Bettie" H. Spinney, 96, of Kings Highway South, died August 12, 2018 in Portsmouth, N.H., after a short stay at the Wentworth Senior Living home. Born March 13, 1922 in Waltham, Mass., she was the daughter of Elie J. Tebo and Winnifred N. Joy. She was a 1939 graduate of Grafton High school in Grafton, Mass. Bettie was predeceased by her older sister Winnifred Joy II and a younger brother Leonard John, her husband of 51 years Harlow R. and daughter Vesta Joy Tidd. She is survived by her brother William C. Tebo of Newfields, N.H.; sister-in law Vesta Blanchard and her husband Jim of Concord, N.H.; son-in law Robert Tidd of North Hampton, N.H.; grandaughters Jillanna Landsperg (deceased two days later) and her husband Robert of Rochester, N.H., Velvette Samson of South Berwick, Maine; grandsons Andrew W. Samson III of Manteo, N.C. and Jon Asmund and his wife Patricia of Eliot, Maine; five surviving great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She worked for the Department of Defense during World War II and for the Federal Government on and off until retiring in 1980. Bettie and her husband enjoyed boating, dancing and spending time with friends. They both traveled extensively, after her husband's death she still traveled on her own or with a friend. She stated that she was not fond of the actual traveling part only the destination. In later years she became quite the green thumb. You could always see her weeding, pruning and picking up sticks in her beautiful yard at the "Old House" by the river. Bettie spent countless hours being the family historian and genealogist. She was to become the oldest living female in 10 generations on both sides of her family. The stories she told of the family's history were colorful, rich and very interesting. She lived a very long and active life driving her own car up until her 96th birthday. She was dearly loved and will be missed. SERVICES: She will be buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot, Maine at a private funeral service. Donations may be made in her memory to the William Fogg Library, 116 Old Rd. in Eliot, ME 03903 or consider making a memorial gift in honor of Elisabeth H. Spinney to Wentworth Senior Living, 346 Pleasant St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.
