He was predeceased by: his brothers, Sonny, Robert and Kerry; and his children, Scott Tinker and Laura Tinker Caldwell.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Walters Tinker; his children, Eric James K. Tinker (Heather) and Jennifer Rebecca Morgan Tinker; his stepchildren, Stephen Freeman (Lynn Traupman) and Amanda Freeman Keene (Ray Keene); his grandchildren, Zachary Caldwell (Savannah Caldwell), Alexis Caldwell, Kaitlin Tinker, Ryen Tinker, Hayden Tinker, Kalee Tinker, Justin Tinker, Claire Andrus, Jacob Keene, Morgan Keene, Ashley Traupman and Joseph Traupman; and his sisters, Irene Bartlet, Nancy Fitzpatrick and Mary Lou Russ.
