He was predeceased by: his parents, Nathaniel Thurber and Ina Thurber (Ring). He is survived by: his children, Scott Thurber, Jr. (Michelle), Dean Thurber (Bessie Elliott), Jessie Ryan, Linda Pitkin (Rob), Frank Elwell, David Elwell, Fred Elwell and Ray Elwell; his siblings, Sidney Thurber (Diane), Carolyn Greenwood and Laura Ryan (Walter); his aunts, Rebecca Holden and Jeanette Ring; and his friend Joe Jennings. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.
